Improve Your Golf Game and Overcome Injuries

“They call it golf because all the other four letter words were taken.â€Â
-Raymond Floyd
Anyone who has ever swung a club knows the excitement of perfect contact with the ball as well as the (more frequent) frustration with a bad shot. Trying to simply master the act of hitting the ball well is difficult enough, but doing so with a golf-related injury is even worse. Â
Golf, while not as physically strenuous as other sports, still takes a toll on the body. The repetitive nature of taking swing after swing puts a lot of strain on the body. When mechanics are not optimal, excessive strain will be put on specific areas leading to pain and injury. Â
The most common golf-related injuries in order according the the Titleist Performance Institute are: lower back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, and wrist pain. Â
The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certifies golf and medical professionals to manage golf performance and injury related issues. Dr. Sankey is a certified TPI Medical Professional and is available for TPI screening sessions today!
The first thing that will happen when you schedule your TPI assessment with Dr. Sankey is a conversation about your golf game. This includes a history of current or past injuries, swing troubles, and performance goals.Â
The TPI functional assessment consists of two parts: Movement Screen and Swing Analysis. The Movement Screen is a 16-part screen that tests your body’s mobility and motor control as it relates to the golf swing. The video Swing Analysis checks for the 12 most common swing faults according to TPI. Â
Once the data is collected, Dr. Sankey will create a plan to address the issues found in both the Movement Screen and the Swing Analysis. This plan will involve a series of stretches, exercises, and potentially some in-person treatments. Â
The results of your TPI Assessment can be shared with your golf pro so everyone is in the loop. If you do not already have a golf pro, you can find one on TPI’s network of certified professionals. Â
